Avtalet värt 800 miljoner kronor
Green Cargo får uppdraget att från årsskiftet dra malmtågen för Northlands Resources gruva i Pajala. Det 5-åriga avtalet är värt omkring 800 miljoner kronor och blir ett av Green Cargos största transportavtal.
Vid årsskiftet 2012-2013 inleds malmtransporterna från Kaunisvaaragruvan i Pajala. Transporterna av gruvans malm ska gå ut via hamnen i Narvik i Norge. Green Cargo har fått uppdraget att köra malmtågen och sköta växlingen vid omlastningsterminalen i Pitkäjärvi i Sverige och i Narvik.
Green Cargo har inlett förberedelserna för trafikstart i januari 2013. Lokresurser är säkrade och rekrytering och utbildning av personal är redan inledd.
– Det här är stort för oss och vi är mycket glada att vår produktionslösning har fått förtroendet. Vi börjar köra varje dag redan i januari och dimensionerar vårt åtagande för tågvikter på nästan 5 000 ton, säger Green Cargos vd Mikael Stöhr.
När gruvproduktionen är i full drift kommer Green Cargo att köra tre tåg varje dygn mellan Pitkäjärvi och hamnen i Narvik. Ett tåg med 40 vagnar kommer då att dras av tre ellok.
– Vi rekryterar nu lokförare och växlingspersonal för både den svenska och norska delen av verksamheten. Vi sätter in de malmtågsanpassade ellok vi har för den långa transporten och moderniserade diesellok för växlingen i Pitkäjärvi och Narvik, säger Mikael Stöhr.

Och sedan hoppas jag verkligen att transporten av malmen till Pitkäjärvi sker med "trådtradare", snart hundra år efter Malmbanans elektrifiering är det dags för nästa tekniska pionjärgärning vad elektrifierade transporter anbelangar!
